吉慶圍是香港一個著名的圍村，圍牆早在十七世紀清康熙年間興建。現在村內的新建村屋的高度多已超過圍牆，以至本來很古色古香的景觀，給破壞掉了，可觀性也減低。居民的需要與古蹟的保存始終存有矛盾，需要有智慧的調和去達致雙驘。

另一個類似的圍村建築，但保存的比較完好的有上水的新圍。

As one of the oldest walled-village in Hong Kong. The wall was originally built on early 17th Century. However, due to improper preservation policy, the speciality of old walled view is eroding fast as newer houses are built within the village. The needs of village residents and the heritage preservation requires special wisdom.

Another better-looking walled village in Hong Kong worth visiting is San Wai (in Sheung Shui district)

入口的鐵門，有個故事是 1900 年當英國人接管新界時，村民展開反抗，後來無以為繼英軍戰勝，把鐵門拆掉帶到英國展覽，到 1925 年才從英國運回安放回原處
Iron Door: There was a story that, when British troops took over New Territories in 1899, the villagers rebelled and defended fiercely but eventually lost the war. This door was captured by British forces for exhibition in UK, and returned it back to village in 1925.

牆前的護城河，現在給收窄成一條渠，有些部份更完全填平 There used to be a river (moat) surrounding the walled village. Recent developments narrowed the river, and in some areas, the river is totally covered up.
